PROJECTED EMPLOYMENT VACANCIES SUBSTANTIALLY EXCEEDING PROJECTED
QUALIFIED GRADUATES.

(A) THE STATE SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS SHALL PROJECT
ANNUALLY THE NUMBER OF VACANCIES FOR EMPLOYMENT EXPECTED IN EACH
OF THE SUBSEQUENT 5 YEARS IN AREAS OF CRITICAL SHORTAGE AND THE
NUMBER OF STUDENTS EXPECTED TO GRADUATE FROM PROGRAMS QUALIFYING
THEM TO TEACH IN THESE FIELDS DURING THE SAME PERIOD. THE STATE
SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS SHALL "CERTIFY ANNUALLY TO THE STATE
SCHOLARSHIP BOARD THOSE PROGRAMS THAT CONTINUE TO BE AREAS OF
CRITICAL SHORTAGE AS EVIDENCED BY PROJECTED EMPLOYMENT VACANCIES
SUBSTANTIALLY EXCEEDING PROJECTED QUALIFIED GRADUATES.

(B)   IN ANY YEAR IN WHICH A PROGRAM AREA IS DETERMINED BY
THE STATE SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS NO LONGER TO BE AN AREA OF
CRITICAL SHORTAGE, THE STATE SCHOLARSHIP BOARD SHALL DISCONTINUE
MAKING NEW AWARDS IN THAT PROGRAM.

(C) IN ANY YEAR THAT MATHEMATICS, CHEMISTRY, PHYSICS, AND
EARTH SCIENCE FAIL TO BE AREAS OF CRITICAL SHORTAGE, THE STATE
SCHOLARSHIP BOARD SHALL DISCONTINUE MAKING NEW AWARDS AND THE
PROGRAM SHALL BE DISCONTINUED WITHOUT FURTHER LEGISLATIVE ACTION.

(D)(C) DELETION OF ANY PROGRAM AS AN AREA OF CRITICAL
SHORTAGE SHALL NOT TERMINATE THE RIGHT OF EXISTING RECIPIENTS TO
RENEW AWARDS UNDER THIS SUBSECTION.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1984.

AN ACT concerning

General State Scholarships

FOR the purpose of allowing recipients of general State
scholarships to hold a certain other scholarships
scholarship; increasing the maximum amount of an award and
the total amount which may be awarded for undergraduate
study; and providing that a recipient may hold the
scholarship for a certain time if certain conditions are

met; and raising the amounts to be allocated to each

district.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
