LAWS OF MARYLAND

Ch. 86

FOR the purpose of establishing a teacher education scholarship
program for the education of persons to teach in certain

areas of critical shortage; defining certain terms;

providing that the State Scholarship Board and the State
Board for Education may adopt certain rules and regulations;
providing eligibility and certain other requirements for
recipients; providing for a certain limitation on the amount
of a scholarship; providing that a recipient is precluded
from receiving certain other forms of State sponsored
financial assistance; providing for renewal of awards under
certain circumstances; requiring that a recipient of an
award teach in a public school in an area of critical
shortage for a certain time; providing for repayment if
certain terms are not fulfilled; providing that the State
Superintendent of Schools shall project and certify certain
areas of critical shortage; requiring the State Scholarship
Board to discontinue making certain awards; allowing certain
recipients to renew awards despite the elimination of a
program as an area of critical shortage; and generally
relating to teacher education scholarships for the education
of persons to teach in areas of critical shortage.

Tuition Assistance - Education of Persons to Teach
in an Area of Critical Shortage

FOR the purpose of authorizing the State Scholarship Board to
make certain awards to certain students; providing that
certain students at colleges and universities in this State
who obligate themselves to teach in this State under certain
circumstances may receive tuition assistance; providing that
the State Scholarship Board and the State Board of Education
may adopt certain rules and regulations; requiring that a
recipient of tuition assistance teach in a public school in
an area of critical shortage for a certain time; defining
certain terms; providing for repayment of funds in certain
instances; and generally relating to tuition assistance for
the education of persons to teach in areas of critical
shortage.
