4172 EXECUTIVE ORDERS
HIGH TECHNOLOGY ROUNDTABLE
WHEREAS, High technology is one of the major growth sectors in
the American economy and has accounted for 75% of the net
growth in national manufacturing employment over the past 20
years;
WHEREAS, Maryland already contains over 1,000 high technology
firms employing nearly 80,000 workers;
WHEREAS, Maryland's ready source of labor, diverse and high
quality educational services, accessible location and
quality of life are among features which make it ideally
suited for the growth and expansion of high technology
firms;
WHEREAS, Maryland State government and local governments have
embarked on aggressive economic development programs for the
attraction and expansion of high technology industries;
WHEREAS, Cooperation between industry and government is necessary
to plan effectively policies and resources conducive to the
growth of high technology industries;
WHEREAS, The Governor's Ad Hoc Committee on High Technology
recommended that a high technology roundtable be appointed
to build on Maryland's strong foundation through forging an
effective partnership between the public and the private
sectors to propel Maryland into a leadership position in
high technology industries.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, HARRY HUGHES, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF
MARYLAND, BY VIRTUE OF THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME BY THE
CONSTITUTION AND LAWS OF MARYLAND, HEREBY ISSUE THE
FOLLOWING EXECUTIVE ORDER, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY:
SECTION 1. (a) There is a Governor's High Technology
Roundtable consisting of not more than 30 members.
(b) The Governor shall appoint members who
collectively shall represent the Executive and
the Legislative Branches of the Maryland
Government, the business and the financial
communities of Maryland, and the business
concerns employing high technology. The
Governor shall designate one member as chairman.
(c) The term of each of the members is coterminous
with the term of the Governor.
SECTION 2. (a) The Governor's High Technology Roundtable
