INTERAGENCY COMMITTEE ON SPECIALIZED
TRANSPORTATION - AMENDMENTS
WHEREAS, By Executive Order 01.01.1975.02, dated April 8, 1975,
and amended by Executive Order 01.01.1978.01, dated February
20, 1978, the Interagency Committee on Specialized
Transportation was created; and
WHEREAS, The Executive Orders directed the Committee to develop
an overall effective plan to provide transportation services
meeting the special needs of handicapped and elderly persons
and to coordinate the efforts and activities for those State
agencies involved in providing for these specialized
transportation services; and
WHEREAS, It is necessary and desirable to clarify and expand the
planning and coordinative responsibilities of the Committee,
and to add the Director of the Office for the Coordination
of Services to the Handicapped to the Committee;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, HARRY HUGHES, Governor of the State of
Maryland, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the
Constitution and laws of Maryland, hereby issue the
following Executive Order amending Executive Orders
01.01.1975.02 and 01.01.1978.01, respectively, to be
effective immediately:
1. Interagency Committee on Specialized Transportation
(a) The Interagency Committee on Specialized
Transportation is created. It consists of a
Chairman appointed by the Governor; the
Secretaries of Health and Mental Hygiene,
Transportation, and Human Resources; the
Director on Aging; THE DIRECTOR OF THE OFFICE
FOR THE COORDINATION OF SERVICES TO THE
HANDICAPPED; and the heads of such other State
agencies as the Chairman may designate.
(b) The Committee shall develop an overall effective
plan FOR THE MANAGEMENT, ADMINISTRATION, AND
UTILIZATION OF FUNDS MADE AVAILABLE FROM SECTION
16(B)(2) OF THE URBAN MASS TRANSPORTATION ACT OF
1964, AS AMENDED to provide transportation
services meeting the special needs of
handicapped and elderly persons [which will make
maximum use of available federal funds]. THE
COMMITTEE, IN DEVELOPMENT OF ITS PLAN, SHALL
