Article - Education

Section 3-701

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1978 Volume and 1983 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Education

3-701.

(a)  In this subtitle, "elected member" means one of the
seven elected and voting members of the Montgomery County Board
or a member appointed to fill a vacancy of one of these seven
members.

(b)  The Montgomery County Board consists of seven elected
members and one nonvoting student member.

(c)  An elected member of the County Board shall be a
registered voter of Montgomery County.

(d)  Members of the Montgomery County Board shall be
elected[:

(1)  At] AT the general election every 2 years as
required by subsection (f) of this section[; and

(2)  From Montgomery County at large].

(e)  (1) The student member shall be a bona fide resident of
Montgomery County and a regularly enrolled junior or senior year
student from a Montgomery County public high school.

(2)  The nomination and election process shall be as
agreed on by the County Board and the Montgomery County region of
the Maryland Association of Student Councils. This process shall
include the opportunity for any student enrolled in grades 9
through 11 in the Montgomery County public schools to:

(i) Nominate a student member candidate; and

(ii) Vote either directly for a student Board
member or vote for delegates from the student's school, who in
turn vote for the student Board member.

(3)  An alternate student member shall be elected at
the same time as the student member. The alternate shall serve
only if the student member is unable to complete his elected
term.
