A Senate Joint Resolution concerning

Task Force on Hunger in Maryland
Governor's Task Force on Food and Nutrition

FOR the purpose of requesting the Governor to establish a Task
Force on Hunger in Maryland to examine and report on the
extent of the problem; providing for membership, appointment
and staffing of the Task Force extend the existence of the
Task Force on Food and Nutrition for a certain period of
time; providing that the Task Force report to the Governor
and the General Assembly by a certain date; and generally
relating to establishing a Task Force on Hunger in Maryland.

WHEREAS, An increasing number of individuals in the State of
Maryland are receiving less than the amounts of food required for
proper nutrition, sustaining general good health, and survival;
and

WHEREAS, The problems of hunger in the State are extensive;
and

WHEREAS, Current State programs do not adequately address
the problems of hunger in Maryland; and

WHEREAS, There is a pressing need to implement a
comprehensive strategy in the State of Maryland for providing
food assistance to needy individuals; and

WHEREAS, There is a need to identify the areas where the
largest number of individuals in need of food assistance for
survival are located in the State in order for the State to
develop an efficient means of resolving the problem; and

WHEREAS, The General Assembly acknowledges its moral

obligation to provide for food assistance programs in the State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
Governor is requested to appoint a Task Force to examine the
causes of and problems surrounding hunger, the State's current
response to individuals in need of food assistance for survival,

the effectiveness of existing programs, and the need for

additional services; and be it further
