AN ACT concerning
Charles County - Fire and Rescue Tax
FOR the purpose of authorizing the County Commissioners of
Charles County to levy a certain fire and rescue tax;
providing for the allocation and distribution of the fire
and rescue tax; requiring that the funds received by certain
fire departments and rescue squads be used for specific
purposes; authorizing the County Commissioners of Charles
County to pay additional funds to various fire departments
and rescue squads as they deem necessary; providing for the
use of excess proceeds from the fire and rescue tax;
providing for certain inspections of fire department and
rescue squad equipment and apparatus; providing for the
withholding of funds for failure to comply with certain
standards; repealing provisions establishing and providing
for a retirement program for certain members of the Charles
County Volunteer Fire Companies and Volunteer Rescue Squads;
providing for distribution of funds if a fire department or
rescue squad in Charles County ceases to be an active fire
fighting or rescue organization; establishing a certain
method for a fire department or rescue squad receiving
benefits to obligate itself or expend funds for certain
capital expenditures; requiring the submission of certain
financial statements to certain county officials; including
a certain rescue squad within the terms of this Act, and
authorizing certain acts of the County Commissioners of
Charles County; establishing a retirement program for
certain members of the Charles County Volunteer Fire
Companies and Rescue Squads; providing qualifications for
certain fire company and rescue squad members to receive
retirement benefits; providing for the amount of retirement
benefits and administration of the retirement program;
requiring the County Commissioners of Charles County to
administer the retirement program for certain volunteer
firemen and rescue squadmen fire and rescue squad members;
providing a certain maximum ceiling for benefits paid for
certain services under certain circumstances; changing the
composition of the membership of the Board of Fire and
Rescue Commissioners; providing that such changes do not
affect the current membership of the Board; and generally
relating to the Charles County rescue and fire tax and
retirement program for volunteer firemen and rescue sqadmen
fire and rescue squad members.
