Prince George's and Montgomery Counties -
Mass Transit

FOR the purpose of providing that under certain circumstances the
Maryland Department of Transportation shall provide for
certain grants to specific counties for a share of the
operating deficits of certain bus transit local bus systems
for certain bus service provided after a certain date;
defining a certain term terms; providing that the
Department of Transportation's share shall equal a certain
percent of certain operating deficits; providing that this
Act shall be of no force and effect after a certain date;
and generally relating to requiring the Department of
Transportation to provide certain grants to specific
counties for a share of the operating deficits of certain
bus transit local bus systems.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

10-207.

(A) IN THIS SECTION, "LOCAL BUS SYSTEM" MEANS A BUS TRANSIT
SYSTEM OWNED OR OPERATED BY MONTGOMERY COUNTY OR PRINCE GEORGE'S
COUNTY.

(A) (B) IN THIS SUBSECTION SECTION, "OPERATING DEFICIT"
MEANS OPERATING COSTS LESS:

(1)  THE GREATER OF OPERATING REVENUES OR 50 PERCENT
OF THE OPERATING COSTS; AND

(2)  ALL FEDERAL OPERATING ASSISTANCE.

(B) (C) SUBJECT TO THE APPROPRIATION REQUIREMENTS AND
BUDGETARY PROVISIONS OF § 3-216 OF THIS ARTICLE AND UPON RECEIPT
OF AN APPROVAL OF A GRANT APPLICATION IN THE FORM OR DETAIL AS
THE SECRETARY SHALL REASONABLY REQUIRE, THE DEPARTMENT SHALL
PROVIDE FOR ANNUAL GRANTS TO PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY AND
MONTGOMERY COUNTY FOR A SHARE OF THE OPERATING DEFICITS ANNUAL
OPERATING DEFICITS BEGINNING ON JULY 1, 1984 OF THE BUS TRANSIT
SYSTEMS OWNED OR OPERATED BY EACH COUNTIES LOCAL BUS
SYSTEMS FOR BUS SERVICE THAT A LOCAL BUS SYSTEM PROVIDES AFTER
JANUARY 1, 1978 TO REPLACE COMPARABLE BUS SERVICE IN EACH COUNTY
