AN ACT concerning

Municipalities - Violations of Ordinances and Resolutions

FOR the purpose of altering the penalties that may be imposed by
the legislative body of a municipality to punish violations
of certain ordinances and resolutions.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 23A - Corporations - Municipal

Section 3(a)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 23A - Corporations - Municipal

(a) The legislative body of any municipality shall have
power to provide that violations of ordinances and resolutions
authorized by this article shall be punishable as misdemeanors,
but no penalty shall exceed a fine of [$500] $1,000 and
imprisonment for [90 days] 6 MONTHS. Imprisonment in default of
fine and costs shall be regulated by the provisions of Article
38, § 4 of the Code.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1984.
