Ch. 295

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the Laws of
Maryland read as follows:

Article 41 - Governor - Executive and Administrative

Departments

159.

(A)   IN THIS SUBTITLE THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE MEANINGS
INDICATED.

(B)   "COUNCIL" MEANS THE STATE ADVISORY COUNCIL FOR
HANDICAPPED INDIVIDUALS.

(C)   "DIRECTOR" MEANS THE DIRECTOR OF THE OFFICE.

(D)   "OFFICE" MEANS THE OFFICE FOR HANDICAPPED INDIVIDUALS.

160.

IN THE OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR, THERE IS AN OFFICE FOR
HANDICAPPED INDIVIDUALS.

160A.

(A)  THE HEAD OF THE OFFICE IS THE DIRECTOR, WHO SHALL BE
APPOINTED BY THE GOVERNOR.

(B)  THE DIRECTOR SERVES AT THE PLEASURE OF THE GOVERNOR.

(C)  THE DIRECTOR SHALL HAVE PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE IN
PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION AND EXPERIENCE IN WORKING WITH HANDICAPPED
INDIVIDUALS.

(D)  THE DIRECTOR IS ENTITLED TO THE SALARY PROVIDED IN THE
STATE BUDGET.

160B.

THE OFFICE SHALL BE GIVEN ADEQUATE STAFF AND FUNDING TO
CARRY OUT ITS DUTIES.

160C.

THE OFFICE SHALL:

(1)   IDENTIFY AND EVALUATE THE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
FOR HANDICAPPED INDIVIDUALS IN THE STATE;

(2)  COLLECT INFORMATION TO IDENTIFY PROGRAMS AND
SERVICES THAT HANDICAPPED INDIVIDUALS NEED;

(3)   IDENTIFY BARRIERS TO THE DELIVERY OF ADEQUATE
SERVICES AND RECOMMEND PROCEDURES TO REMOVE THE BARRIERS;
