his services at the rate of [five ($5.00) dollars per diem] $5 A

4-25. Same; violation of duty of secrecy.
[The] IF THE official court stenographer [in the event he
should violate] VIOLATES any of the provisions of section 4-23
with regard to secrecy, [shall be deemed] THE STENOGRAPHER IS
guilty of a misdemeanor and [on conviction thereof] shall be
[fined] SUBJECT TO A FINE not exceeding [one thousand ($1000.00)
dollars] $1,000 or [imprisoned in jail] IMPRISONMENT FOR A PERIOD
not exceeding [one] 1 year, or [be] both [fined and imprisoned in
the discretion of the Court]. (1957 Code, sec. 147. 1939, ch.

Bailiffs
4-27. Bailiffs; duties, compensation.
The Circuit Court of Washington County [is hereby authorized
and empowered to] MAY appoint [three] 3 bailiffs to [said] THE
court, [two] 2 to be door or gate-keepers and [one] 1 to be
designated by [said] THE court to have charge of the library.[,
said] THE bailiffs [to] SHALL be in regular attendance upon the
court[, to be] AND ARE under its control and supervision. [and
each to receive such compensation as] THEIR SALARIES shall be
[prescribed] SET by the County Commissioners after consultation
with the court[, which shall be provided for in the annual levy
and paid as other salaries are paid]. The compensation may be
either on a per diem or annual basis for either one or all of
[said] THE bailiffs, as [shall be] IS determined by the court and
the County Commissioners. If any of [said] THE bailiffs are paid
a per diem, then, upon a certificate from the Clerk of the
Circuit Court for [said] THE county of the number of days each of
them has attended, the collector of taxes for [said] THE county
shall pay [the amounts thereof] THEM in the same manner that
