HARRY HUGHES, Governor                                         1671

(B)  The [said] court stenographer [so] appointed for the
Circuit Court for Washington County shall receive [such] THE
salary [as the said] THAT THE Judges of the Fourth Judicial
Circuit [may] authorize in writing to be paid [him] by the County
Commissioners of Washington County in regular monthly
instalments.

(C)  The [said] court stenographer [so] appointed for the
Circuit Court for Allegany and Garrett Counties shall receive
[such] THE salary [as the said] THAT THE Judges of the Fourth
Judicial Circuit [may] authorize in writing to be paid [him] by
the County Commissioners of Allegany and Garrett Counties,
respectively, in regular monthly instalments [from March 29,

4-18. Same; when salary paid.

The County Commissioners of Washington County shall levy and
pay to the [said] court stenographer [so] appointed for the
Circuit Court of Washington County the [said] salary [as the
said] THAT THE judges of the Fourth Judicial Circuit [may]
authorize in writing in monthly instalments on or before the 10th
day of each month as long as [said] THE court stenographer is
performing the official duties [herein provided for] REQUIRED
UNDER THIS ARTICLE, or until [said] THE County Commissioners are
notified TO THE CONTRARY by the judges of [said] THE circuit[, to

4-19. Same; duties; vacancy; fees.

(A)  (1) The [said] court stenographer [so appointed] shall
be skilled in the art and practice of stenography and typewriting
and shall hold [said] THAT position until removed by A MAJORITY
OF the judges of [said] THE Circuit [or a majority of them, and
in].

(2) IN case of a vacancy in [said] THE office, [said]
THE judges [are authorized and directed to] SHALL appoint a
suitable person in conformity with this [subheading] ARTICLE to
fill [such] THE vacancy.

(B)  (1) [It shall be the duty of said official] THE court
stenographer, at the discretion of [said] THE court, [to] SHALL
take full stenographic notes of all oral testimony and judicial
opinions orally delivered at the regular terms and at all trials
of cases in law or in equity of [said] THE court when the
testimony is taken in open court, and any other judicial
opinions, or judicial matters pertaining to the business of the
Fourth Judicial Circuit [of Maryland] when requested by any of
[the] ITS judges.
