of signing or recording, the date from which it bears interest,
the term of court, and the number on the docket; and if the
records of the court show that the same has been satisfied, made
or in any way discharged, the said index shall also set forth

4-15. Clerk's index of attachments.
The clerk of the circuit court [is directed to] SHALL make a
separate and complete index, in a book well bound and suitable
for the purpose, of all writs of attachment issued out of said
court, in the name of each defendant in the attachment and short
note cases, and also showing the name of each plaintiff in the
attachments, short note, garnishee, and claimant cases, the amount
of the attachment and costs as set forth in the writ, the date of
issuance of the writ, the term of court, and the number on the
docket, and if the records of the court show that the attachment
has been laid, dismissed, quashed, dissolved, or otherwise
disposed of, or that any judgment either nisi or final as been
entered in the attachment, short note, garnishee, or claimant
cases, said index shall also set forth such facts. (1957 Code,

Bar Library
4-16. Payments for Bar Library.
(A) The County Commissioners [of Washington County are
hereby authorized and directed to] SHALL pay to the Clerk of the
Court, to be expended under the direction of the Judges of [said]
THE Court for the augmentation, maintenance, and upkeep of the
BAR library [of said Court], [such] sums of money [as said] THAT
THE Judges [may from time to time] request [for the purpose
aforesaid].
(B) [Provided, however, that such] ANY payments shall be
made only [in the event] IF the amounts received by [said] THE
Clerk for the [aforesaid] purposes SPECIFIED IN THIS SECTION from
fines and forfeitures, as provided by [Section 5 of] Article 38,
SECTION 5 of the Annotated Code [of Public General Laws of
Maryland,] (See note (2)) [shall be] ARE insufficient for [said]
THOSE purposes. (1963, ch. 444.)
Court Stenographer
4-17. Court stenographers; appointment, salary. (See note (3))
(A) The judges of the Fourth Judicial Circuit of Maryland[,
are hereby authorized and directed to] SHALL appoint [two] 2
official court stenographers, [one] 1 for the Circuit Court for
Washington County, and [one] 1 for the Circuit Court for Allegany
and Garrett Counties, who shall be sworn officers of the courts
of [said] THE circuit.
