(Senate Bill 927)

AN ACT concerning

Emergency Medical Services -
Helicopter Transportation

FOR the purpose of providing that the director of the Maryland
Institute for Emergency Medical Services may promulgate
rules and regulations to assure that patients transported by
helicopter to certain medical facilities are transported in
accordance with certain guidelines and protocols; requiring
that helicopters transporting patients provide certain
notification; and generally relating to rules and
regulations concerning helicopter transport of patients.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Education

13-110.

(a)  There is a Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical
Services in the University of Maryland and located in Baltimore
City.

(b)  (1) The head of the institute is the director who shall
be appointed by the Board of Regents.

(2) The institute shall have the staff and funds
provided in the State budget.

(c)  The director shall:

(1)  Coordinate a statewide system of emergency
medical services;

(2)  Coordinate the five emergency medical service
regions in this State;

(3)  Coordinate the planning and operation of
emergency medical services with the federal, State, and county
governments;
