(II)  PRESENTING THE CLAIMS TO THE APPROPRIATE
GOVERNMENTAL UNIT;

(III)  TRYING TO PREVENT AND TO RELIEVE
CONGESTION IN THE PROCESSING OF THE CLAIMS; AND

(IV)  OBTAINING AND EXPEDITING ACTION ON THE
CLAIMS.

(B) DUTIES OF DIRECTOR.

THE DIRECTOR SHALL KEEP IN CONTACT WITH THE APPROPRIATE
GOVERNMENTAL UNIT AS TO THE STATUS OF EACH CLAIM OF A VETERAN OR
DEPENDENT OF A VETERAN.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from the first paragraph of
former Art. 96 1/2, § 5 and the second and third
clauses of the second sentence and the second clause
of the third sentence of § 6.

In subsections (a)(2) and (b) of this section, the
phrase "appropriate governmental unit" is substituted
for the former references to "the United States
Veterans Administration and other federal agencies",
"proper federal authorities and agencies", and "the
United States Veterans Administration", to encompass
local units. These substitutions are based on
practice.

The second paragraph of former Art. 96 1/2, § 5, which
defined "veteran", is deleted as obsolete and, in
light of § 9-901 of this subtitle, unnecessary. See
revisor's note to § 9-901 of this subtitle.

9-913. STATE VETERANS' CEMETERIES.

(A)   "STATE VETERANS' CEMETERY" DEFINED.

IN THIS SECTION, "STATE VETERANS' CEMETERY" MEANS A CEMETERY
THAT THE COMMISSION ESTABLISHES UNDER THIS SECTION.

(B)  AUTHORIZED.

THE COMMISSION MAY ESTABLISH 1 OR MORE CEMETERIES IN THE
STATE FOR THE BURIAL OF VETERANS AND THEIR IMMEDIATE FAMILIES.

(C)  ACQUISITION OF LAND.

(1) THE COMMISSION MAY ACCEPT LAND, ON BEHALF OF THE
STATE OR A POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THE STATE, OR OTHERWISE
ACQUIRE LAND FOR A STATE VETERANS' CEMETERY, IF THE COMMISSION
HAS THE APPROVAL OF:
