LAWS OF MARYLAND

Ch. 284

In subsection (b)(l)(i) of this section, the reference
to servicing claims of "dependents" is added to
conform to the duties of the Commission as provided in
§ 9-912 of this subtitle and to reflect practice.

Also in subsection (b)(1)(i) of this section, the word
"have" is substituted for the former words
"established, equipped, maintained and operated", for
brevity.

Also in subsection (b)(l)(i) of this section, the
former phrase "in the discretion of said Commission"
is deleted as unnecessary in light of the word "may".

Also in subsection (b)(1)(i) of this section, the
former reference to "elsewhere in said city and in the
State of Maryland at such places as may, from time to
time, be designated by the Commission" is deleted as
unnecessary since, under subsection (b)(2) of this
section, the Commission has the duty to choose a
location for these centers.

In subsection (b)(2)(ii) of this section, the former
specific reference to "public buildings provided by
the State of Maryland, or any political subdivision
thereof, or ... private buildings" is deleted since
there seemed to be no intent to preclude the use of
rent-free federal property, and, in practice, the
federal government has provided space for service
centers.

In subsection (c)(2) of this section, the former
limited reference to "information for the benefit of
such ... veterans" is deleted as unnecessary in light
of the broad reference to "complete information about
the problems that relate to veterans."

Defined terms: "Commission" § 9-904
"Director" § 9-904 "Veteran" § 9-901

9-912. CLAIMS.

(A) DUTIES OF COMMISSION.

(1)  THE COMMISSION SHALL HELP VETERANS AND THEIR
DEPENDENTS TO RECEIVE PROMPTLY AND REGULARLY ALL OF THE BENEFITS
TO WHICH VETERANS OR DEPENDENTS ARE ENTITLED UNDER FEDERAL LAW.

(2)  AMONG OTHER THINGS, THE COMMISSION SHALL HELP
VETERANS AND THEIR DEPENDENTS IN:

(I) PREPARING, IN PROPER FORM, CLAIMS FOR
BENEFITS;
