LAWS OF MARYLAND
Ch. 284
(C) MISCELLANEOUS DUTIES.
IN ADDITION TO ANY DUTIES SET FORTH ELSEWHERE, THE DIRECTOR
SHALL:
(1) SURVEY THE STATE TO ENSURE THAT VETERANS AND
THEIR DEPENDENTS ARE NOT NEGLECTED; AND
(2) PERFORM ANY OTHER DUTY THAT THE COMMISSION
DIRECTS.
REVISOR'S NOTE: Subsections (a) and (c) of this section are
new language derived without substantive change from
the first and second clauses of the first sentence and
the third and fourth clauses of the third sentence of
former Art. 96 1/2, § 6.
Subsection (b) of this section is standard language
substituted for the fourth sentence of former Art. 96
1/2, § 6, which referred to the salaries for the
Director and other employees "under the Standard
Salary Law of the State" and to their expenses "as the
Commission may ... direct" and which is deleted as
obsolete with respect to the Standard Salary Law and
unnecessary with respect to reimbursement. State
employees generally are entitled to reimbursement
although the entitlement is not set out in statute and
the reimbursement is subject to the Standard State
Travel Regulations.
In subsection (a) of this section, the reference to a
"Director" is substituted for the former reference to
the "State Service and Executive Officer", to conform
to practice. For conformity, the defined term
"Director" is substituted, throughout the balance of
this section, for the former references to the
"Officer".
Former Art. 96 1/2, § 3(c), the first paragraph of §
4, and the fifth sentence and the first clause of the
second sentence of § 6, which provided for a Veterans'
Relief Fund and its administration, are deleted as
obsolete. The last appropriation of relief funds
reverted to the General Fund of the State on August 8,
1973.
The third clause of the first sentence of former Art.
96 1/2, § 6, which stated that the Director "shall be
a member of the merit system", is deleted as
unnecessary in light of Art. 64A, § 7 of the Code,
which specifies that all of the employees of the
Commission are in the classified service.
Defined terms: "Commission" § 9-904
