Commission".

9-905. ESTABLISHED.

THERE IS A MARYLAND VETERANS COMMISSION.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from the first clause of
the first sentence of former Art. 96 1/2, § 3(a).

It is set forth as a separate section for emphasis.

9-906. INDEPENDENT UNIT.

THE COMMISSION IS AN INDEPENDENT UNIT AND, EXCEPT BY
STATUTE, MAY NOT BE MADE A PART OF ANOTHER UNIT OF THE STATE
GOVERNMENT.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from former Art. 96 1/2, §
3(d).

The phrase "another unit of the State government" is
substituted for the former reference to "any
department or any other agency", to conform to the
terminology used elsewhere in this article and to
clarify that the Commission is a unit of the State
government.

9-907. MEMBERSHIP.

(A) COMPOSITION; APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS.

(1)  THE COMMISSION CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING 23
MEMBERS:

(I)  AS AN EX OFFICIO MEMBER, THE CHAIRMAN OF
THE MARYLAND VETERANS' HOME COMMISSION; AND

(II)  22 MEMBERS APPOINTED BY THE GOVERNOR.

(2)  OF THE 22 APPOINTED MEMBERS:

(I) 1 SHALL BE APPOINTED FROM EACH OF THE 8
CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICTS IN THE STATE;
