(5) INDEX AND PRESERVE ALL OF THE INFORMATION THAT IS
GATHERED UNDER THIS SUBSECTION, SO THAT THE INFORMATION IS EASILY
ACCESSIBLE TO STATE OFFICIALS AT ALL TIMES AND IS OPEN FOR PUBLIC
INSPECTION.

REVISOR'S NOTE: Subsections (a) and (b) of this section are
new language derived without substantive change from
the second sentence and the second clause of the third
sentence of former Art. 40, § 50(b).

Subsection (c) of this section formerly appeared as
Art. 40, § 51(a), except the last clause of that
subsection.

The introductory language of subsection (c) of this
section, "[i]n addition to any duties set forth
elsewhere," is standard language added to clarify that
the enumerated duties are not exclusive.

Subsection (c)(1)(ii) of this section is revised to
clarify that the Director is not merely to
"accumulate" information on the operation and effect
of laws but is to include the information in the
report on laws.

In subsection (c)(3) of this section, the words "all
available", which formerly modified "information", are
deleted since the burden of collecting all available
information on all pending legislation is
impracticable.

In subsection (c)(5) of this section, the former words
"collate" and "arranged" are deleted as unnecessary in
light of the duty to "index".

The only other changes are in style.

The last clause of former Art. 40, § 51(a), which
required an office in Annapolis, is deleted as
obsolete.

THE DEPARTMENT MAY EMPLOY A STAFF IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
STATE BUDGET.

(B)  UNCLASSIFIED POSITIONS.

POSITIONS IN THE DEPARTMENT ARE UNCLASSIFIED.
