Ch. 131                                    2005 LAWS OF MARYLAND under certain circumstances; authorizing the Administration to enter into
certain agreements to construct, operate, and maintain bus passenger shelters
at certain fixed-route bus stops; defining certain terms; providing for the
application of this Act; and generally relating to commercial advertising signs on
bus passenger shelters located on State rights-of-way. BY adding to Article - Transportation Section 8-750 through 8-752, inclusive, to be under the new part "Part VII.
Advertising Signs on Bus Passenger Shelters" Annotated Code of Maryland (2001 Replacement Volume and 2004 Supplement) Preamble WHEREAS, The State of Maryland and its counties and municipal corporations
operate public fixed route bus services along State highways; and WHEREAS, The State is committed to increasing transit ridership on these bus
services; and WHEREAS, Clean and efficient facilities encourage transit ridership and
well-maintained shelters at bus stops are an important part of a program to increase
bus ridership; and WHEREAS, Maryland counties and municipal corporations historically have
constructed and maintained bus passenger shelters on the rights-of-way of State
highways; and WHEREAS, The State wishes to create a consistent program that will further
the goal of increased use of mass transit through providing enhanced facilities such as
bus passenger shelters that are in compliance with applicable State, local, and federal
law; now, therefore, SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: Article - Transportation PART VII. ADVERTISING SIGNS ON BUS PASSENGER SHELTERS BUS PASSENGER SHELTER PROGRAM. 8-750. (A)     IN THIS PART THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE MEANINGS INDICATED. (B)     "BUS PASSENGER SHELTER" MEANS A SHELTER LOCATED AT A
DESIGNATED TRANSIT BUS STOP FOR THE CONVENIENCE OF PASSENGERS OF A
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM OWNED AND OPERATED BY A GOVERNMENTAL
UNIT OR, PUBLIC AUTHORITY, OR TRANSIT OPERATOR. - 930 -
