CHAPTER 323
(Senate Bill 598)
AN ACT concerning
Circuit Court Clerks - Salary
FOR the purpose of removing altering a certain limit on the maximum salary that the
Board of Public Works may set for a circuit court clerk; providing that this Act
does not apply to the salary or compensation of an incumbent clerk; and
generally relating to the salaries of circuit court clerks.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings
Section 2-504(a)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings
2-504.
(a) The clerk of each circuit court shall receive an annual salary [of not more
than $85,000 $110,000] $98,500 as set by the Board of Public Works on the basis of
the relative volume of business and receipts in the clerk's office.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, pursuant to Article III,
Section 35 of the Maryland Constitution, this Act may not be construed to extend or
apply to the salary or compensation of the clerk of each circuit court in office on the
effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning the salary or
compensation of the clerk of each circuit court shall take effect at the beginning of the
next following term of office.
SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
October 1, 2005.
