providing for the extension of certain terms; providing for the appointment of
certain members; and generally relating to the members of the Board of
Trustees of Chesapeake College.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article - Education
16-406.
(a) (1) The Board of Trustees of Chesapeake College consists of two
members from each county that supports Chesapeake College who shall be appointed
by the Governor, with the advice and consent of the House of Delegates.
(2) The county superintendents of schools in the region are not ex officio
members.
(b) (1) (I) [Each member serves for a term of 4] THE TERM OF A MEMBER
IS 5 years AND BEGINS ON JULY 1.
(II) A MEMBER CONTINUES TO SERVE UNTIL A SUCCESSOR IS
APPOINTED AND QUALIFIES.
(2) (i) Subject to subparagraph (ii) of this paragraph, a member
appointed to begin a FULL term on or after July 1, [2000] 2006, may not serve for
more than three [4-year] 5-YEAR FULL terms.
(ii) A term of a member that began before July 1, [2000] 2006, does
not count toward the term limit established in subparagraph (i) of this paragraph.
(c) Each member of the Board:
(1) Serves without compensation; and
(2) Is entitled to reimbursement for expenses in accordance with
applicable travel regulations.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the terms of the members
of the Board of Trustees of Chesapeake College shall be extended as follows:
(a) The members from Queen Anne's County and Caroline County whose
terms expire in 2006 shall have their terms extended for 1 year until June 30, 2007;
(b) The member from Dorchester County whose term expires in 2006 shall
have that member's term extended for 2 years until June 30, 2008;
