(b) Before January 30, 1993, and before January 30 every 4th year thereafter,
the Commission shall make recommendations regarding salaries of the offices in
subsection (a) of this section to the County Commissioners.
(C) BEFORE THE COMMISSION SUBMITS ITS RECOMMENDATIONS REGARDING
SALARIES OF THE OFFICES IN SUBSECTION (A) OF THIS SECTION TO THE COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS, THE COMMISSION SHALL MEET WITH EACH PERSON WHO HOLDS
AN OFFICE LISTED IN SUBSECTION (A) OF THIS SECTION IN ORDER TO:
(1) ACQUAINT THE COMMISSION WITH THE DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THOSE PUBLIC OFFICIALS;
(2) OBTAIN ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION THAT THE COMMISSION
BELIEVES WOULD BE HELPFUL TO COMPLETE ITS WORK; AND
(3) PROVIDE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE PUBLIC OFFICIALS TO EXPRESS
THEIR OPINIONS ABOUT THE APPROPRIATE COMPENSATION FOR THE OFFICES.
12-106.
(a) Within 45 days after receiving the recommendations of the Commission,
the County Commissioners shall set by local law the salary for each office included in
the recommendations:
(1) Subject to subsection (b) of this section; and
(2) With respect to a public official, in accordance with Article III, § 35 of
the Maryland Constitution.
(b) The County Commissioners may accept, reduce, or reject but may not
increase the recommendations of the Commission.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, notwithstanding Article
24, § 12-106(a) of the Code, on or before July 1, 2006, the Board of County
Commissioners of Allegany County shall set by local law the salary for each office
included in the recommendations of the Allegany County Salary Study Commission.
Beginning with the terms of the members of the Allegany County Salary Study
Commission to be appointed in 2008, the appointment of members to and the
meetings and duties of the Allegany County Salary Study Commission and the
establishment of the salaries recommended by the Allegany County Salary Study
Commission shall be in accordance with Article 24, Title 12, Subtitle 1 of the Code.
SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 2006.
