2. HJR 51 (1983) - Chesapeake Bay - Finfish
As directed by HJR 52 (1983), and the Legislative
Policy Committee, the AELR Committee began its review of
Fishery laws and regulations at a June 7 hearing, with a
report from the Tidewater Administration of its current
efforts to eliminate duplication in Title 4, Subtitle 7 of
the Natural Resources Article. Senator Dorman and Delegate
McCaffrey will spearhead the review and coordinate efforts
with DNR to expeditiously and without duplication carry out
the mandate of HJR 52 (1983).
3. Role of the Attorney General's Office
On June 28, the Chairman, Vice Chairman, President and
Speaker are scheduled to meet with the Attorney General of
the State concerning the role of the Attorney General in
disputes arising between the legislature and executive
agencies in the State. The matter of representation has
become one of concern as a result of recent differences of
statutory interpretation involving asbestos statutes and
regulations allegedly promulgated under those statutes and
as a result of the questionable promulgation of regulations
by the Board of Public Works and legislation filed after
AELR inquiries.
John Arnick Catherine I. Riley
Chairman - AELR Committee Vice-chairman, AELR Committee
