HARRY HUGHES, Governor
FOR the purpose of altering the number of newspapers in Cecil
County in which the Cecil County Treasurer must publish the
annual tax levy. BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments, The Public Local Laws of Cecil County Section 1-31 Article 8 - Public Local Laws of Maryland (1970 Edition and January 1982 Supplement, as amended)
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: Article 8 - Cecil County 1-31. It shall be the duty of the Treasurer of Cecil County in
each and every year, as soon as the annual levy is made, to give
public notice thereof by advertisement in [not less than two
newspapers] 1 NEWSPAPER published in said county, and said levy
shall be due and payable on the first day of July of the year in
which it is made, and he shall report to the county commissioners
at their regular meeting on the second Tuesday in each month, the
amount of taxes of all kinds received by him up to that date, the
amount of disbursements made and the balance remaining in his
hands; and he shall deposit at the close of each week, in banks
or insured savings and loan associations designated by the county
commissioners, all monies that may have come into his hands
during said week, the portion belonging to the state to the
credit of the comptroller of the state treasury, and the portion
belonging to the county to the credit of Cecil County, and shall
receive therefor from said banks or insured savings and loan
associations two certificates of deposit, and he shall
immediately forward to the comptroller the certificate showing
the amount placed to his credit, and shall exhibit to the county
commissioners the certificate showing the amount placed to the
credit of Cecil County, and shall file the same in their office;
and the money thus deposited to the credit of Cecil County shall
be drawn out only upon a check signed by the treasurer and
approved by the president of the board of county commissioners,
and the said treasurer shall not deposit any money belonging to
Cecil County in any bank or insured savings and loan associations
that will not pay interest on said deposits during the time said
money is deposited in said bank or insured savings and loan
associations, and before making said deposits the treasurer shall
require said bank or banks or insured savings and loan
associations to give bond or other security to said treasurer to
guarantee the safety of said deposits, said bond or bonds, or
securities to be approved by the board of county commissioners.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1983.
