2-309.
(u) (1) The Sheriff of Somerset County shall receive a
salary of not less than $16,000 and no expense allowance. He
shall appoint a chief deputy who shall receive a salary of not
less than $7,500. Subject to the approval of the County
Commissioners, the Sheriff may appoint additional deputies at the
compensation set by the County Commissioners prior to any
appointment. The Sheriff or one of his deputies shall act as
county jailer and shall receive annual total compensation of not
less than $6,000.
(2) The Sheriff and his deputies [shall] MAY wear
uniforms when performing their official duties, and the
automobiles used by the Sheriff's office shall be equipped with a
two-way radio.
(3) The County Commissioners may pay for the
uniforms, radios, automobiles, and operating expenses of the
automobiles of the Sheriff's office.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1983.

(House Bill 1081)
AN ACT concerning
Howard County - Alcoholic Beverages
FOR the purpose of permitting the Howard County board of license
commissioners to issue a WS (Wine Sampling) license to
certain license-holders bona fide nonprofit organizations;
requiring that the WS license be used only for on-premises
wine sampling or tasting; placing certain restrictions on
the amount of wine which may be served to any one person;
requiring license-holders bona fide nonprofit organizations
to file an application for a WS license with the board of
license commissioners a certain number of days before the
license date; restricting the number of WS licenses a
licensee can receive in any license year; establishing a
certain fee for a WS license; and generally relating to the
issuance of a WS alcoholic beverages license in Howard
County.
