HARRY HUGHES, Governor                                           691 handling of, certain hazardous and toxic substances by
certain employees; requiring the Governor to appoint the
members of the commission and providing for the membership
of the commission; requiring a certain report to be filed
with the Governor and the General Assembly by a certain
date; and terminating the commission as of a certain date. BY adding to Article 89 - Division of Labor and Industry Section 100 through 110 to be under the new subtitle "Hazards Communication Act"
Section 33A Annotated Code of Maryland
(1979 Replacement Volume and 1982 Supplement) Preamble WHEREAS, Many places of work pose potential acute and
chronic health hazards to employees due to exposure to varying
forms and concentrations of hazardous and toxic substances; and WHEREAS, Employers and employees have a right and need to
know potential health hazards and safety procedures when exposed
to hazardous and toxic substances; and WHEREAS, Such knowledge is essential to reducing the
incidence, frequency, and cost of occupational diseases and
injuries; now, therefore, SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: Article 89 - Division of Labor and Industry HAZARDS COMMUNICATION ACT 100. (A) IN THIS SUBTITLE THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE MEANINGS
INDICATED. (B) "CHEMICAL NAME" MEANS THE SCIENTIFIC DESIGNATION OF A
SUBSTANCE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE NOMENCLATURE SYSTEM DEVELOPED BY
THE INTERNATIONAL UNION OF PURE AND APPLIED CHEMISTRY, THE
CHEMICAL ABSTRACT SERVICE RULES OF NOMENCLATURE, AN ALTERNATE
NAME FOUND IN THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND
HEALTH REGISTRY OF TOXIC EFFECTS OF CHEMICAL SUBSTANCES; OR A
PRESCRIPTION GENERIC DRUG NAME. (C) "COMMON NAME" MEANS ANY DESIGNATION OR IDENTIFICATION
USED TO IDENTIFY A SUBSTANCE OTHER THAN BY ITS CHEMICAL NAME,
INCLUDING A TRADE NAME OR NUMBER, CODE NAME OR NUMBER, BRAND
NAME, AND GENERIC NAME.
