FOR the purpose of clarifying language that provides that the
salary of the Howard County State's Attorney is equal to the
salary of the District. Court judges; making stylistic
changes; providing a preamble of legislative intent; and
making this Act an emergency measure.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article 10 - Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact

Preamble
WHEREAS, The General Assembly in 1980 passed legislation
setting the salary of the State's Attorney for Howard County to
be that of the judges of the District Court of the State; and
WHEREAS, The legislation passed had erroneously added
language referring to the court of general jurisdiction in the 8
judicial circuits in the State; and
WHEREAS, It was the intent of the General Assembly that
beginning with the term of the State's Attorney elected in the
general election of 1982 that the salary be that of a judge of
the District Court; and
WHEREAS, Questions have arisen as to whether the salary is
to be that of the District Court judge or a judge of the court of
general jurisdiction, a circuit court judge; and
WHEREAS, The General Assembly wants to make clear that the
salary of the State's Attorney for Howard County is now and has
been since the term of the present incumbent beginning as a
result of the 1982 general election that of a judge of the
District Court of Maryland and the sole purpose of this
legislation is for clarification and to reaffirm Chapter 492 of
the Laws of 1980; now, therefore,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
