CHAPTER 82
(Senate Bill 85)
AN ACT concerning
Cruelty to Animals - Cockfighting
FOR the purpose of prohibiting a person from owning, using, or
permitting any bird, fowl, or cock to be used for purposes
of cockfighting prohibiting a person from obtaining or
permitting certain structures or premises to be used for
cockfighting; providing for the seizure and disposition of
animals seized in the course of an investigation into a
possible violation of this Act; holding certain persons not
liable for their action in carrying out the provisions of
this Act; providing certain penalties; making certain acts
separate offenses under this Act; holding violators of this
Act liable for certain costs involved in the seizure and
treatment of certain animals; and generally relating to
prohibiting cockfighting in this State.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article 27 - Crimes and Punishments
59B.
(A) A PERSON MAY NOT:
(1) OWN, POSSESS, HAVE USE, KEEP, OR PERMIT ANY
BIRD, FOWL, OR COCK TO BE USED FOR THE PURPOSE OF FIGHTING WITH
ANY OTHER ANIMAL, WHICH IS COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS COCKFIGHTING;
OR
