HARRY HUGHES, Governor                                        2295 RESOLVED, That the committee commission report its
recommendations to the Governor in sufficient time in order that
the Governor may place sufficient funds in his annual budget for
the development, construction, and erection of the memorial; and
be it further RESOLVED, That the memorial be unveiled in suitable ceremony
so that the citizens of Maryland may appropriately pay homage to
those who served our nation with honor; and be it further RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be sent to the
Honorable Harry Hughes, Governor of Maryland, and the Honorable
Lorraine Sheehan, Secretary of State. Signed May 10, 1983. No. 23 (House Joint Resolution No. 33) A House Joint Resolution concerning Governor's Task Force on Food and Nutrition FOR the purpose of requesting that the Governor establish a Task
Force on Food and Nutrition to examine certain issues and
problems relating to the food and nutritional needs of
certain Maryland residents; providing that the Task Force
determine certain information and report on certain matters
relating to food and nutrition by a certain date; providing
for the membership, and appointment, and staffing of the
Task Force; and generally relating to establishing a Task
Force on Food and Nutrition. WHEREAS, The General Assembly of Maryland recognizes that
there are currently over 460,000 individuals in Maryland living
under the poverty level according to the U.S. Bureau of the
Census, 1980; and WHEREAS, The Federal Food Stamp Program experienced a 20
percent reduction in funding during FY 1983; and WHEREAS, Only 69 percent of those eligible to receive food
stamps in Maryland are actually utilizing the program, and in
some rural areas participation is only 27 percent of those who
are eligible; and WHEREAS, The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Nutrition
Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program in Maryland
experienced a cutback in federal funds due to a reallocation of
money to the Mid-Atlantic Region and this will result in 6,300
women and children being dropped from the program beginning
February 1, 1983; and
