HARRY HUGHES, Governor
FOR the purpose of adding a public member who is a hearing
impaired person to the Board of Hearing Aid Dealers. BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments, Article 56 - Licenses Section 523 Annotated Code of Maryland (1979 Replacement Volume and 1982 Supplement)
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: Article 56 - Licenses 523. (a)  There shall be a Board of Examiners for Hearing Aid
Dealers. The Board shall consist of [five] 6 members to be
appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the
Senate. The Governor shall designate one member as chairman. (b)  Members of the Board shall be residents of this State.
ONE MEMBER SHALL BE A PUBLIC MEMBER WHO IS A HEARING IMPAIRED
PERSON. One member shall be a person licensed to practice
medicine in this State and shall hold a certificate of
qualification from the American Board of Otolaryngology. One
member shall have at least four years of paid work experience in
audiology, shall hold a certificate of clinical competence in
audiology from the American Speech and Hearing Association and
shall be a member in good standing of that association. Three
members shall be persons experienced in the sale of hearing aids,
shall possess the qualifications provided in § 513 of this
subtitle, and shall be recommended by the Maryland members of the
Hearing Aid Dealers Association of Maryland, District of Columbia
and Delaware. [All] EXCEPT FOR THE HEARING IMPAIRED PERSON, ALL
persons appointed to the Board after the date on which the Board
first issues a certificate of license, as provided in § 514(c) of
this subtitle, shall be persons who hold valid certificates of
license. (c)  Three members of the first appointed Board shall have
terms of two, three and four years, respectively, and two members
shall serve terms of five years, all dating from after July 1,
1969. Board members appointed thereafter shall serve terms of
five years. (d)  The members of the Board shall receive a compensation
as may be provided in the budget from time to time. (e)  The Board shall meet at least once a year at a place
and time determined by the members. The Board may also meet at
such other times as it may determine.
