1982 HOUSE OF DELEGATES
MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE June 1, 1982
The Honorable Benjamin L. Cardin
Speaker of the House of Delegates
State House
Annapolis, Maryland 21404 Dear Mr. Speaker: In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the
Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 480. This bill provides that when a person has elected a
vested retirement allowance dies prior to retirement, their
accumulated contributions may be returned to their
designated beneficiary. Senate Bill 263, which was passed by the General
Assembly and signed by me on June 1, 1982 accomplishes the
same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign
House Bill 480.
Sincerely,
Harry Hughes
Governor Read and ordered journalized.
House Bill No. 480 AN ACT concerning Pensions - Vested Retirement FOR the purpose of permitting a person who has elected to
receive a vested retirement allowance from a State
retirement or pension system to designate a beneficiary
to receive the person's accumulated contributions in
the event the person dies prior to the effective date
of his or her deferred retirement; and clarifying
language. BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments, Article 73B - Pensions Section 11(16), 86(10), 117(15), and 145(14)
