HARRY HUGHES, Governor

865

Defined terms: "County" § 1-101

"Health officer" § 1-101

"Person" § 1-101

"Public health veterinarian" § 18-312

18-317. COST OF TREATMENT.

THE DEPARTMENT SHALL PAY THE COST OF ANY ANTIRABIES
TREATMENT THAT AN INDIVIDUAL REQUIRES, IF THE INDIVIDUAL IS
UNABLE TO PAY FOR THE TREATMENT.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from the second
sentence of former Article 43, § 615B.

The term "antirabies treatment" is substituted
for the obsolete term "Pasteur treatment", to
conform to Department practice.

The term "individual" is substituted for the
narrower reference "bite victim", since an
individual does not need to be bitten to be
exposed to rabies. See § 18-316 of this
subtitle.

Defined term: "Department" § 1-101

18-318. VACCINATIONS -- DOGS.

(A)  VACCINATION REQUIRED.

EACH PERSON WHO OWNS OR KEEPS A DOG THAT IS 4 MONTHS
OLD OR OLDER SHALL HAVE THE DOG VACCINATED ADEQUATELY
AGAINST RABIES.

(B)  PROOF OF VACCINATION.

(1)  A COUNTY MAY NOT REGISTER OR LICENSE A DOG,
UNLESS THE PERSON WHO OWNS OR KEEPS THE DOG SUBMITS, WITH
THE APPLICATION FOR REGISTRATION OR LICENSE, PROOF THAT THE
DOG HAS BEEN VACCINATED ADEQUATELY AGAINST RABIES.

(2)  THE PUBLIC HEALTH VETERINARIAN SHALL
DETERMINE THE PROOF OF VACCINATION THAT IS ACCEPTABLE.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from former Article
43, § 616(a).

In subsection (a) of this section, the word
"adequately" is added to modify "vaccinated", to
clarify that a vaccination must be kept current.
This addition is based on the requirements of
subsection (b) of this section.
