AN ACT concerning
Wage Garnishment
FOR the purpose of providing that certain wages, due from or
payable by certain units of government and their public
officers, to certain individuals are subject to
attachment under certain circumstances; providing that
this Act applies to judgments originally entered on or
after June 1, 1982; providing that this Act takes
effect on a certain date; and generally relating to
wage attachments.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
read(s) as follows:

WAGES, DUE FROM OR PAYABLE BY THE STATE, OR A COUNTY, A
MUNICIPAL CORPORATION, OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION AND
THE PUBLIC OFFICERS OF THE STATE OR A COUNTY, MUNICIPAL
CORPORATION, OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION TO AN
INDIVIDUAL, ARE SUBJECT TO ATTACHMENT PROCESS BROUGHT FOR
THE ENFORCEMENT OF THE PRIVATE LEGAL OBLIGATIONS OF THE
INDIVIDUAL IN THE SAME MANNER AND TO THE SAME EXTENT AS IF
THE STATE, COUNTY, MUNICIPAL CORPORATION, OR OTHER POLITICAL
SUBDIVISION, AND THEIR RESPECTIVE PUBLIC OFFICERS, WERE A
PRIVATE PERSON.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
applies to judgments originally entered on or after June 1,
1982.
SECTION 2 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this
Act shall take effect July June 1, 1982.
