LAWS OF MARYLAND

Ch. 21

(1)  THE STATE ADVISORY COUNCIL CONSISTS OF 18
MEMBERS APPOINTED BY THE GOVERNOR.

(2)  THE STATE ADVISORY COUNCIL SHALL INCLUDE
REPRESENTATIVES FROM A BROAD RANGE OF AGENCIES AND GROUPS
THAT ARE CONCERNED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY WITH MENTAL
HYGIENE, SUCH AS ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:

(I)  COURTS.

(II)  POLICE.

(III)  PROBATION OFFICES.

(IV)  CLERGY.

(V)  LABOR.

(VI)  MANAGEMENT.

(VII)  LEGAL PROFESSION.

(VIII)  MEDICAL PROFESSION.

(IX)  MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATIONS.

(X)   STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT.

(XI)  PRIVATE EMPLOYEE GROUPS.

(XII)  LOCAL CITIZENS GROUPS.

(XIII)  MAJOR SOCIO-ECONOMIC AND ETHNIC
GROUPS.

(B) TENURE; VACANCIES.

(1)   THE TERM OF A MEMBER IS 3 YEARS.

(2)  THE TERMS OF THE MEMBERS ARE STAGGERED AS
REQUIRED BY THE TERMS PROVIDED FOR MEMBERS OF THE STATE
ADVISORY COUNCIL ON JULY 1, 1982. THE TERMS OF ONE THIRD OF
THOSE MEMBERS END EACH YEAR.

(3)  AT THE END OF A TERM, A MEMBER CONTINUES TO
SERVE UNTIL A SUCCESSOR IS APPOINTED AND QUALIFIES.

(4)  A MEMBER WHO IS APPOINTED AFTER A TERM HAS
BEGUN SERVES ONLY FOR THE REST OF THE TERM AND UNTIL A
SUCCESSOR IS APPOINTED AND QUALIFIES.
