HARRY HUGHES, Governor                                515

SUBTITLE 1. DEFINITIONS; GENERAL PROVISIONS.
10-101. DEFINITIONS.

(A)  IN GENERAL.

IN THIS TITLE THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE MEANINGS
INDICATED.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection formerly appeared as
the introductory clause of Article 59, § 3.

The former clause "unless a contrary meaning is
clearly intended ..." is deleted as unnecessary.

The only other changes are in style.

(B)  ADMINISTRATION.

"ADMINISTRATION" MEANS THE MENTAL HYGIENE
ADMINISTRATION.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection is new language added
to avoid repetition of the full title "Mental
Hygiene Administration".

Throughout this title, reference to the Mental
Hygiene Administration is substituted for
references to the former Department of Mental
Hygiene. Therefore, former Article 59, § 3(d),
which defined "Department" to mean the
Administration, is deleted as unnecessary.

(C)  ADMISSION.

(1)  "ADMISSION" MEANS THE PROCESS BY WHICH AN
INDIVIDUAL IS ACCEPTED AS A RESIDENT IN:

(I)  A AN INPATIENT FACILITY; OR

(II)  A VETERANS' ADMINISTRATION HOSPITAL
IN THIS STATE THAT PROVIDES CARE OR TREATMENT FOR
INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE MENTAL DISORDERS.

(2)  "ADMISSION" INCLUDES THE PHYSICAL ACT OF THE
INDIVIDUAL ENTERING THE FACILITY OR VETERANS' ADMINISTRATION
HOSPITAL.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection formerly appeared as
Article 59, § 3(a).

In the introductory clause of paragraph (1) of

this subsection, the phrase "accepted as a

resident in" is substituted for "admitted as an

inpatient", to avoid the circular definition of
