SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland

(as enacted by Chapter ____ (H.B. 200) of the Acts of the

General Assembly of 1982) read(s) as follows:

Article - Health - General

19-609.

(A) IN THIS SECTION THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE
MEANINGS INDICATED.

(B) "DAY "DAY VOCATIONAL PLACEMENT" MEANS A
COMMUNITY BASED JOB WORK TRAINING PROGRAM THAT:

(1)  UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF PLACEMENT
COUNSELORS, FACILITATES JOB WORK TRAINING WITHIN THE PRIVATE
SECTOR AND PROVIDES OTHER SPECIALIZED SERVICES FOR
INDIVIDUALS WHO RESIDE IN SPECIAL GROUP HOMES ESTABLISHED A
GROUP HOME FOR ADULTS WHOSE PRIMARY DIAGNOSIS IS AUTISM WHO
HAVE A PRIMARY DIAGNOSIS AS DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED
INDIVIDUALS; AND

(2)  PROVIDES SUPERVISED PLACEMENTS FOR AUTISTIC
ADULTS DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED INDIVIDUALS AND APPROPRIATE
SUPPORT SERVICES TO ENABLE THEM TO ACQUIRE SKILLS
APPROPRIATE TO SUPPORT THEMSELVES INDEPENDENTLY WITHIN THE
COMMUNITY.

(C) (B) TO THE EXTENT POSSIBLE, THE GOVERNOR SHALL
INCLUDE IN THE ANNUAL STATE BUDGET $150,000 FUNDS FOR THE
OPERATION OF A DAY VOCATIONAL PLACEMENT PROGRAM FOR 15
ADULTS WHOSE PRIMARY DIAGNOSIS IS AUTISM. PROGRAMS FOR
DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED INDIVIDUALS.

(D) THE DAY VOCATIONAL PLACEMENTS SHALL BE FOR
AUTISTIC ADULTS WHO RESIDE IN SPECIALIZED GROUP HOMES THAT
MAY NOT BE OWNED OR LEASED BY THE STATE.

(E) THE SECRETARY SHALL DEFINE AUTISM FOR PURPOSES OF
THIS SECTION.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1982.
