LAWS OF MARYLAND

Ch. 567

(a)   In this title the following words have the
meanings indicated.

(b)   "Administration" means the Mental Retardation
Administration.

(c)  (1) "Admission" means the process by which a
mentally retarded individual is accepted as a resident in:

(i) A facility; or

(ii) A Veterans' Administration hospital
in this State that provides treatment for mentally retarded
individuals.

(2)   "Admission" includes the physical act of the
individual entering the facility or Veterans' Administration
hospital.

(3)   "Admission" does not include the process by
which an individual enters a facility or Veterans'
Administration hospital for comprehensive evaluation.

(d)  "Comprehensive evaluation" means a study of an
individual, including a series of observations and
examinations, that is made to determine whether the
individual is a mentally retarded individual and, if so, to
recommend services.

(E) "DEVELOPMENTAL PERIOD" MEANS THAT PERIOD OF
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEVELOPMENT THAT OCCURS BEFORE A PERSON
ATTAINS 22 YEARS OF AGE.

[(e)] (F) "Director" means the director of the
Administration.

[(f)] (G) (1) "Facility" means any public or private
place with a day, residential, or other program, clinic, or
hospital that provides or purports to provide treatment for
mentally retarded individuals.

(2) "Facility" does not include a Veterans'
Administration hospital.

[(g)] (H) "Group home" means a facility that:

(1)  Under the supervision of a responsible
adult, provides a home for individuals who, because of
mental retardation, require specialized living arrangements;
and

(2)  Admits at least 4 but not more than 8
mentally retarded individuals.
