AN ACT concerning
Office on Aging -
State Employment of Elderly Persons
FOR the purpose of repealing a certain termination date for
a certain employment program for elderly persons;
requiring a certain annual report enabling any person
70 years old or older to compete for any merit system
position for which he qualifies; providing for certain
reviews and extensions; providing for the termination
of certain provisions of this Act after a certain date;
and generally relating to State employment of elderly
persons.

SECTION 1. BEIT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
read(s) as follows:
Article 70B - Office on Aging
(d) (1) In consultation with the Secretary of
Personnel, the Director on Aging shall establish [a 3-year
demonstration] AN employment program for persons 70 years of
age and over to determine the feasibility of finding
employment for those persons in State agencies.
(2) The persons employed in the [demonstration]
program shall be hired under the provisions of Article 64A
but shall not become members of the State Employees'
Retirement System. ANY PERSON 70 YEARS OLD OR OLDER IS
ELIGIBLE FOR APPOINTMENT TO ANY PERMANENT MERIT SYSTEM
POSITION FOR WHICH HE QUALIFIES AND THE APPOINTMENT IS
SUBJECT TO THE PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE 64A.
