SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
read(s) as follows:
Article 10 - Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact
40.
(a) The State's attorneys in the several counties of
the State shall receive annually the respective salaries set
forth for performing the duties required of them by their
respective public local laws and by the public general laws,
and such expenses as are provided by law and by the current
practice in the several counties. The State's attorneys
shall receive annual payments for office, traveling and
other expenses. All payments for salaries and expenses
shall be made by the respective counties in equal monthly
installments unless otherwise specified. The salaries and
expenses are as follows:
(r) (1) In Queen Anne's County, the State's Attorney's
salary is [$16,500] $20,000.
(r) (1) In Queen Anne's County, THE ANNUAL SALARY OF
the State's [Attorney's salary is $16,500] ATTORNEY SHALL BE
SET BY THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY.
HOWEVER, THE SALARY SHALL BE AT LEAST $20,000. THE SALARY
SHALL BE SET PRIOR TO THE DATE ON WHICH A NEWLY ELECTED
STATE'S ATTORNEY FIRST ASSUMES HIS POSITION DURING HIS TERM
OF OFFICE.
(2) The State's Attorney may appoint one
assistant State's attorney with the approval of the County
Commissioners. The salary of the assistant State's attorney
shall be $12,000.
(3) The County Commissioners shall furnish the
State's Attorney with an office and with a secretary, whose
salary shall be determined by the County Commissioners. The
County Commissioners shall furnish the State's Attorney with
supplies and equipment for the office, as the County
Commissioners shall deem appropriate. The County
Commissioners shall reimburse the State's Attorney for any
actual expenses of the office, which shall be shown by
vouchers. The vouchers shall be presented to the County
Commissioners for reimbursement.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
may not be construed to extend or apply to the salary of the
State's Attorney of Queen Anne's County in office on the
effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act
