SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1981.

AN ACT concerning

Prince George's County - Assistant Sheriffs - Salaries

FOR the purpose of altering the annual salary of assistant
sheriffs in Prince George's County, providing for
certain annual increases in the salaries, and providing
for an effective date for this Act.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings

2-309.

(r) (2) (I) The Sheriff of Prince George's County
shall be provided with three full-time assistant sheriffs,
and all assistant sheriffs shall be selected and appointed
by the Sheriff and serve at his pleasure. The assistant
sheriffs shall be considered line officers, if so designated
by the Sheriff.

(II) Each assistant sheriff shall:

1. [receive] RECEIVE an annual
salary of [$25,000] $28,500, TO BE ADJUSTED ANNUALLY AT THE
BEGINNING OF EACH FISCAL YEAR BY A PERCENTAGE EQUAL TO 75
PERCENT OF THE PERCENTAGE BY WHICH THE CONSUMER PRICE INDEX
