In paragraph (3)(iii)2. of this subsection, the
term "radioactive substances" is substituted for
the present, limiting reference to "radium" to
clarify that all radioactive substances are
excluded from the practice of limited physical
therapy.
The requirements of present Art. 43, § 605(c)
that relate to a physical therapist assistant
working "under the direction of a physical
therapist" by performing physical therapy
procedures that are "assigned to him by a
physical therapist and are commensurate with his
education and training" are deleted as
repetitious of the requirements of §§ 13-304 and
13-310 of this title, which sections provide for
the qualifications of an applicant for a physical
therapist assistant license and for the scope of
a physical therapy assistant license.
(I) PRACTICE PHYSICAL THERAPY.
(1) "PRACTICE PHYSICAL THERAPY" MEANS TO
PRACTICE FOR COMPENSATION THE HEALTH SPECIALTY CONCERNED
WITH:
(I) THE PREVENTION OF DISABILITY IN
INDIVIDUALS; AND
(II) THE PHYSICAL REHABILITATION OF
INDIVIDUALS WITH A CONGENITAL OR ACQUIRED DISABILITY.
(2) "PRACTICE PHYSICAL THERAPY" INCLUDES:
(I) PERFORMING AND INTERPRETING TESTS AND
MEASUREMENTS OF NEUROMUSCULAR AND MUSCULOSKELETAL FUNCTIONS
TO AID TREATMENT;
(II) PLANNING TREATMENT PROGRAMS THAT ARE
BASED ON TEST FINDINGS; AND
(III) EXCEPT AS PROVIDED IN PARAGRAPH (3)
OF THIS SUBSECTION, ADMINISTERING TREATMENT WITH THERAPEUTIC
EXERCISE, THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE, MECHANICAL DEVICES, OR
THERAPEUTIC AGENTS THAT USE THE PHYSICAL, CHEMICAL, OR OTHER
PROPERTIES OF AIR, WATER, ELECTRICITY, SOUND, OR RADIANT
ENERGY.
(3) "PRACTICE PHYSICAL THERAPY" DOES NOT INCLUDE
USING:
(I) X-RAYS;
(II) RADIOACTIVE SUBSTANCES; OR
(III) ELECTRICITY FOR CAUTERIZATION OR
SURGERY.
