RESOLUTION FOR AMENDMENT

TO THE CHARTER OF THE TOWN OF ST. MICHAELS

"1979 Amendment"

A RESOLUTION of The Commissioners of St. Michaels to
repeal the present charter of the Town of St. Michaels and
to adopt a proposed amended charter to the Town of St.
Michaels, introduced on January 8, 1980, this resolution
being adopted pursuant to the authority of the Constitution
of the State of Maryland and Maryland code (1957, 1973 REPL.
VOL.) Article 23A, entitled "Municipal Corporations", to
amend the charter of St. Michaels, this amendment to be
entitled "1979 Amendment", by adopting substantially the
provision of Article 23B of the Annotated Code of Maryland,
entitled "Municipal Corporation Charter" with the following
exceptions:

The Commissioners shall elect a president,
vice-president and treasurer from among the members of the
Commission annually at their regular June meeting.

The duties of the president, vice-president and
treasurer are specifically defined in the amended charter.

There is no provision for a mayor of the town.

Where violation of an ordinance is designated a
misdemeanor, the Commission has the power to affix penalties
for violations thereof in the form of fines up to Five
Hundred Dollars ($500.00) or imprisonment for up to ninety
(90) days.

The charter provides that a violation of an
ordinance may be designated a municipal infraction which is
not a criminal conviction but in the nature of a civil money
judgment.

The revised charter provides for absentee
registration and voting in town elections.

A new registration of voters shall be
conducted for the election to be held in April of
1982, and a new voter registration shall be
conducted each ten years thereafter.
