THE GOVERNOR'S COMMITTEE ON EMPLOYMENT
OF THE HANDICAPPED - AMENDMENT
WHEREAS, The Congress of the United States has passed and
the President of the United States has enacted the
Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended; and
WHEREAS, The intent of the Act is to insure a policy of
nondiscrimination in employment and equal access to
public programs and facilities by the handicapped; and
WHEREAS, The State of Maryland has a commitment to
vigorously encourage the implementation of the
provisions and intent of the Rehabilitation Act of
1973, as amended; and
WHEREAS, Pursuant to that commitment, on November 20, 1979,
Executive Order 01.01.1979.23 was promulgated to
establish the Governor's Committee on Employment of the
Handicapped; and
WHEREAS, Provision was made in that Order for the
membership of the Committee to include a representative
from several departments of the State, but no provision
was made for a representative from the Department of
Health and Mental Hygiene; and
WHEREAS, It is otherwise considered advisable to expand the
membership of the Committee on Employment of the
Handicapped to allow additional representation;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, HARRY HUGHES, GOVERNOR OF MARYLAND, BY
VIRTUE OF THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME BY THE
CONSTITUTION AND LAWS OF MARYLAND, DO HEREBY PROMULGATE
THE FOLLOWING ORDER AMENDING EXECUTIVE ORDER
01.01.1979.23, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY:
1. There is a Governor's Committee on Employment
of the Handicapped.
2. The Governor's Committee on Employment of the
Handicapped is affiliated with the President's
Committee on Employment of the Handicapped
located in Washington, D.C., and is affiliated
with Maryland State government as a miscellaneous
agency housed within the Division of Vocational
Rehabilitation, Maryland State Department of
Education.
3. The membership of the Committee shall consist
of a total of [27] 29 members including one
