FOR the purpose of stating expressly the conditions under
which sick leave may be taken and sick pay may be paid;
providing that, except under certain circumstances,
sick pay is not the payment of wages, but is a separate
benefit; amending the term "wages" and adding a
definition of "sick pay" to provide corresponding
changes under the subtitle relating to Social Security
benefits; clarifying that the extended leave that is
authorized under certain current provisions of law
constitutes an extension of sick leave and providing
that the benefit paid under those provisions is sick
pay; providing that, under a certain current provision
of law that provides for accident leave, the benefit
paid is sick pay; making certain technical corrections
and changes in style; and generally amending the laws
of this State to avoid having to make employer and
employee social security deductions for the sick pay
benefits paid to certain State employees while they are
on sick or accident leave, and providing that the
political subdivisions may treat sick pay tor their
employees in a similar fashion.
