AN ACT concerning
Court Clerks - Compensation
FOR the purpose of altering salaries of the clerks of the
circuit courts and the Clerks of the Court of the
Supreme Bench of Baltimore City; and providing that the
salary shall be adjusted a certain percentage when the
Consumer Prince Index for any year changes a certain
percentage from the preceding year; providing that the
salary shall be set by the Board of Public Works the
maximum salary that may be received by each Clerk of
the Circuit Court; and correcting an error. salary
which may be paid the Clerk of each Circuit Court;
providing that this Act does not affect the incumbent
office holders; and clarifying language.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:
Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings
2-504.
(a) The clerk CLERK of THE EACH circuit court of a
county or a court of the Supreme Bench of Baltimore City
shall receive an annual salary [of not less than $10,000
or more than $30,000 $37,500 as set by the Board of Public
Works [on the basis of the relative volume of business
and receipts in his office, provided that in Baltimore City
a clerk's THE CLERK'S salary may not be less than
$12,000.] FOR PERFORMING THE DUTIES REQUIRED OF THEM BY
THE CONSTITUTION AND LAWS OF THIS STATE.
(B) THE CLERK OF THE CIRCUIT COURT OF A COUNTY OR A
COURT OF THE SUPREME BENCH OF BALTIMORE CITY SHALL RECEIVE
AN ANNUAL 5 PERCENT ADJUSTMENT IN SALARY, ON JULY 1, OF EACH
YEAR, WHEN THE RATE OF INCREASE IN THE CONSUMER PRICE INDEX
FOR THE MOST RECENTLY AVAILABLE 12-MONTH PERIOD IS 7 PERCENT
OR GREATER.
[(b)] (C) A clerk CLERK shall devote his full
working time to the duties of his office and is entitled to
