JOINT RESOLUTIONS
(House Joint Resolution No. 36)
A House Joint Resolution concerning
Groundwater Study - Quality and Quantity
FOR the purpose of requesting the Department of Natural
Resources and the Department of Health and Mental
Hygiene to report to the General Assembly on the
current status of the quality and quantity of Maryland
groundwater supplies on or before a certain date.
WHEREAS, The groundwater supply in Maryland is a large
source of the industrial, agricultural and residential water
supply; and
WHEREAS, The continued development and use of the
State's groundwater supply is essential to the economy and
the general welfare of its citizens; and
WHEREAS, Maryland is a heavily industrialized and
urbanized State which has the potential of degrading the
groundwater supply by the improper disposal of waste
materials; and
WHEREAS, The quantity and quality of Maryland's
groundwater is of vital interest to all of its citizens; and
WHEREAS, Planning for the conservation, development and
management of the groundwater supply in the State must be
undertaken and coordinated through the Water Resources
Administration in the Department of Natural Resources and
the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Health
and Mental Hygiene is requested to report to the General
Assembly on the current status of the quality and quantity
of State groundwater supply on or before January 1, 1982;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be sent to the
Honorable James Clark, Jr., President of the Maryland
Senate; the Honorable Benjamin L. Cardin, Speaker of the
House of Delegates; Dr. Charles Buck, Secretary of the
Department of Health and Mental Hygiene; and James B.
Coulter, Secretary of the Department of Natural Resources,
Tawes State Office Building, Annapolis, Maryland 21401.
