SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect June 1, 1981.

(House Bill 886)

AN ACT concerning

Compensation - Clerks of Court

FOR the purpose of altering the salary which may be paid the
clerks Clerk of the each Circuit Courts and the court
of the Supreme Bench of Baltimore City; providing that
if the Consumer Price Index increases by a certain

percentage the salary shall increase a certain

percentage annually Court; providing that this Act does
not affect the incumbent office holders; and clarifying
language.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1980 Replacement Volume and 1980 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings

2-504.

(a) The clerk CLERK of EACH circuit court of a county
[or] AND a court of the Supreme Bench of Baltimore City
shall receive an annual salary of not less than $10,000 or
more than [$30,000] $40,000 $37,500 as set by the Board of
Public Works on the basis of the relative volume of business
and receipts in his office, provided that in Baltimore City
a clerk's THE CLERK'S salary may not be less than $12,000.

(B) IN ADDITION TO THE SALARY SET FORTH IN SUBSECTION
(A), THE CLERK OF THE CIRCUIT COURT OF A COUNTY AND A COURT
OF THE SUPREME BENCH OF BALTIMORE CITY SHALL RECEIVE AN
ANNUAL 5 PERCENT INCREASE IN SALARY WHEN THE RATE OF CHANGE
IN THE CONSUMER PRICE INDEX FOR THE PREVIOUS 12-MONTH PERIOD
IS 7 PERCENT OR GREATER.
