Except as otherwise provided in this subtitle, a person
may not, habitually or for compensation, practice, attempt
to practice, or offer to practice midwifery in this State
unless licensed by the Board.]

[7-608.

Unless authorized to practice midwifery by this State,
an individual may not represent to the public by title, by
description of services, methods, or procedures, or
otherwise that the person is authorized to practice
midwifery in this State.]

[7-609.

A licensed nurse midwife may not employ or permit an
unlicensed person to act as a substitute for the licensed
nurse midwife.]

[7-610.

Except under the personal direction and supervision of
a physician, a licensed nurse midwife may not attend a woman
in an abnormal case of childbirth.]

[7-611.

A licensed nurse midwife who was governed by the law
that regulated midwives on or before July 1, 1978 remains
governed by that law until rules and regulations to regulate
these licensees are adopted by the Board and take effect.]

SUBTITLE 6. SPECIAL NURSE MIDWIFE PROVISIONS.

7-601.

IN THIS SUBTITLE:

(1)  "PRACTICE NURSE MIDWIFERY" MEANS TO MANAGE
AND CARE FOR A WOMAN AND THE NEWBORN CHILD OF WOMAN DURING
THE ANTEPARTAL, INTRAPARTAL, AND POSTPARTAL PERIODS THE
MANAGEMENT AND CARE OF ESSENTIALLY NORMAL NEWBORNS AND OF
ESSENTIALLY NORMAL WOMEN ANTEPARTALLY, INTRAPARTALLY AND
POSTPARTALLY.

(2)  "PRACTICE NURSE MIDWIFERY" INCLUDES FAMILY
PLANNING AND WELL WOMAN REPRODUCTIVE CARE.

7-602.

THE PRACTICE OF NURSE MIDWIFERY IS GOVERNED BY RULES
AND REGULATIONS THAT ARE ADOPTED UNDER § 7-205 OF THIS TITLE
AND THAT CONCERN ADDITIONAL ACTS IN THE PRACTICE OF
REGISTERED NURSING.
