High-Rise Building Safety - Smoke Control

FOR the purpose of requiring that certain high-rise
buildings contain certain fire safety features for
smoke control; and relating generally to high-rise
building safety.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 38A - Fires and Investigations

51A.

EVERY HIGH-RISE BUILDING CONSTRUCTED ON WHICH
CONSTRUCTION BEGINS AFTER JULY 1, 1982 1983, SHALL BE
PROTECTED BY A SMOKE CONTROL SYSTEM; (1) DESIGNED AND
CONSTRUCTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH ACCEPTED ENGINEERING
PRACTICES AND (2) AS APPROVED BY THE AUTHORITY HAVING
JURISDICTION OVER FIRE SAFETY. IN COMPLIANCE WITH STANDARDS
DEVELOPED BY AND JOINTLY PROMULGATED AS REGULATIONS BY THE
DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND THE
STATE FIRE PREVENTION COMMISSION AND TO BE ENFORCED BY THE
STATE FIRE PREVENTION COMMISSION.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1981.

AN ACT concerning

State Documents Law - Boards of License Commissioners

FOR the purpose of redefining the term "agency" to exclude
boards of license commissioners in order that these
boards will not be required to publish their
regulations in the Maryland Register; and limiting the
purposes of this enactment.
